BroTalk: A New Service for Teen Males
A new service, BroTalk, is helping young males from ages 14 to 18 openly discuss their mental, physical, and emotional issues. This demographic is highly vulnerable as they are the least likely to talk about these issues due to the stigma that surrounds gender stereotypes. BroTalk was launched by Kids Help Phone, a free and professional counselling service available for Canada’s youth. The trained counsellors have been supporting young people where they need it the most.
Reducing the Stigma of Gender Stereotypes
According to Kids Help Phone President and CEO, Sharon Wood, only one in five users of Kids Help Phone have been male, which was a driving factor behind BroTalk. The service itself was created with the input from teen males. The topics vary from depression, to sex, to simply fitting in. Real life stories are also included on the website in order to be more relatable.
