No More Drama | La’Porsha Renae
Domestic abuse is an extremely serious issue that we are faced with everyday. It is likely that if you are not directly affected, that you know someone who has experienced abuse in their relationships. Keep in mind that this could be in the form of both physical and / or verbal abuse.
La’Porsha Renae is a victim of domestic violence and is a wonderful example of how she not only survived, but how she grew from it. She had always dreamt of being on stage; however, she entered a relationship when she was 18 with a man who was “very charming”. Unfortunately, as the relationship continued, the abuse began and progressively got worse.
Surviving the Abuse
“Every good quality that I had about myself, he hated… I lost myself, and my dream of being a singer. I didn’t feel human anymore.”
After her daughter was born, La’Porsha gained the confidence to leave her relationship. She moved into a shelter and sang to her daughter every night, where she rediscovered her passion for singing.
