The Purpose of CMHA

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) in the Calgary area is part of Canada’s “most established national mental health organizations.” The Calgary Region works to tackle mental illness by:

  • Building awareness
  • Providing education
  • Advocating for and supporting victims of mental illness, suicide, and addiction

This is done through several programs, including:

  • Homeless outreach
  • Aboriginal outreach
  • Supportive and independent living
  • Suicide bereavement
  • Peer support

“It’s really about changing how we look at, and how we talk about, mental health and addiction. It is taking a positive look at an issue that affects us all in some capacity and then using what we find to enhance supports for the best possible outcomes at a community level.” – Laureen MacNeil, Executive Director of CMHA Calgary

According to CMHA – Calgary, one in five people experience a mental disorder in their lifetime and most of us know someone who has faced mental health challenges… Let’s end the stigma with resiliency! Share your story with #NowImStronger and view the stories of others below!
