Transgender Beauty Pageant in Israel
Close to 30 transgender women are contending for a chance to enter the very first “Miss Trans Israel” beauty pageant. This week, preliminaries were held, where the women strutted their stuff in skinny jeans, crop tops, and stiletto heels, in front of judges at a Tel Aviv club.
According to our sources, Tel Aviv is “one of the world’s most gay-friendly travel destinations, standing in sharp contrast to most of the rest of the Middle East, where gays can face persecution.”
Pageant organizer, Israela Stephanie Lev, stated that living as a transgender woman in Israel was “terrible” in the past, but people have since become more accepting. “Definitely we are achieving, enlightening the people to accept and empower transsexuals.”
The contestants that were interviewed were in their early 20’s, and bring several skills to the table, hoping to make it big. Talleen Abu Hanna, a 21-year-old entrant, wanted to do something with her life.
“I have this something, I am a dancer, and I am a signer, I play the trumpet. I have something to give the people.”
The finalists will compete at the pageant in May, with the winner representing Israel at Miss Trans Star in Spain this August.
